Aipan art of Kumaon in Uttarakhand becomes especially prominent during festivals, particularly Diwali. During Diwali, women create Lakshmi’s footsteps across courtyards, entrances, floors, and rooms to welcome Goddess Lakshmi. They add lotus or floral patterns and create these designs on a red ochre base with white detailing.
